Hapag-Lloyd's " Hamburg Express " off BrunsbŁttel on
the River Elbe on a Sunny Morning, 30.10.2005. This vessel was Officially
the biggest Containership in theWorld upon her delivery in October 2001.
Back then her dimensions were somewhat of sight, 320 meters Long, 42,80 meters Wide, DWT 88.943 , 100.006 and able to accomodate 7506 Teus and powered by a B&W MAN Leviathan to 25,3 Knots.
It is funny to look at those figures and compare them to the ones of Regina Maersk delivered in December 1995. That vessel is rated at 6000 Teus and is sharing roughly the same measurements but it is believed to benefit from "Flexible Stowage Possibilities" and then vessels of the "A" Class, now rated at 7.226 Teus. If you asked me, then Maersk passed the 10.000 Teu Barrier long ago but managed to keep it secret how many containers those vessels are really able to carry.
