The story behind the site

It all began some years ago, when the authors started talking. They started talking about this and that ship. They started sending e-mails with pictures of boats back and forth. Before they knew it, material for a website was there. The idea grew slowly to start a website to be able to share the collected material.

They also started to search for others with similar perverted interests as they had. Looking for boats was something they at first thought themselves rather alone with. It can sometimes be very hard finding good stuff in the net when you don't really know what you are looking fore.

After a while they found a lot of interesting stuff. They started following internet chat forums, they found magazines to read and off they went.

The first web site that was released to public scrutiny whas the "Nort Atlantic Container Ships", basically only bothering about the container trade between Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Europe and North America. Later the containerships.org was set afloat, and that grew from dealing with only containerships to involve almost anything afloat (except for small craft for leisure purposes only).

We are also trying to take things one step further. Not only is this a brand new site, with all brand new photographs - our ambition is to present shorter articles in the future as well.

The site in its current form was first launched on March 1st, 2004.
